Should Team India’s legends step aside?
The Big Fight: The veterans of Team India fail to mount the slightest semblance of a resistance Down Under. So what has gone wrong? On The Big Fight, we debate: Should the legends step aside?
Yusuf Pathan Hat-Rick Sixes Vs Nathan McCullum_1st T20_2009
It was a second hat-trick of sixes in the Indian innings in this Match, this time by Yusuf Pathan. He got down on one knee and slogged Nathan McCullum’s first three deliveries over long-on but was caught while going for the fourth. The ball travelled flatter towards Oram at long-on who took the catch, pedalled backwards, quickly lobbed the ball in the air before going over the rope and caught it once again after coming back into play. It was reminiscent of Adam Voges’ catch at the same position in Sydney recently.
Sachin Tendulkar 76 Vs West Indies_1st Test 2011
The possibility of Tendulkar’s 100th international hundred – overnight he needed 67 out of the 124 India required – was a little thought in the corner of the mind, and that is where it seemed it would remain. However, the last three of those 11 boundaries were hit by Tendulkar in successive Ravi Rampaul overs, a flick to square leg, a picture-perfect cover drive and a push – a mere push – through point. Tendulkar now needed 41 out of the remaining 67 runs, and with the game relatively secure Laxman eased up a bit. Tendulkar kept picking the boundaries, and Laxman singles, until the equation came down to 24 out of 43 runs required. Then Tendulkar went to pull a Devendra Bishoo googly, and was deceived by the low bounce. Rod Tucker made another correct lbw call in what has been a good match for him.
MS Dhoni 87 vs England_1st ODI_2011
MS Dhoni’s unbeaten 87 is his fourth successive ODI half-century, and his third unbeaten one. He averages 45 against England, while his overall ODI average has crept back to more than 50.Dhoni belted 10 fours and one six in his innings, the latter coming from a trademark helicopter flick off Steven Finn in the penultimate over of the innings.
MS Dhoni 144 vs West Indies_2nd Test_2011
MS Dhoni scored only his second century in 32 innings. His last century came against South Africa in Kolkata in February 2010. In 32 innings since that knock, he has scored 958 runs at an average of 31.93 with a century and six fifties. The 224-run stand between Laxman and Dhoni is the third-highest sixth-wicket stand for India in Tests. It is also third on the list of highest Indian partnerships against West Indies.
